Dear Members of the Caribbean Dental Convention,
As healthcare members, I do not need to remind you about data related to Covid19. Barbados recorded its first two cases of the virus today, 17th March 2020. My concerns are grave because of the increasing incidence globally with ensuing deaths. Like you, I have read and watched stories about those infected by the coronavirus, and CDP wishes those impacted a quick and full recovery. Within our global village, we are fortunate to obtain rapid updated information coming from around the world and I am aware that some already feel uneasy about traveling because of the potential danger.
I now want to update you on our April 2020 Convention and the impact Covid19 has. First and foremost, our priority is always the safety of our lecturers, delegates, supporting and hotel staff. As such, in these uncertain times I am sure you will understand that measures need to be taken to prevent any further increase in this ongoing Pandemic and thereby confirm participants’ Health & Safety is our highest priority.
We continue to receive cancellations from both lecturers and delegates who are cognizant of their susceptibility (as asymptomatic individuals) to Covid19 exposure while travelling on aeroplane or from being in a crowded lecture room. As chairman, I am also cognizant that our decision has to be made with an abundance of caution for all concerned. I have spent many hours and sleepless nights putting together an ideal convention with a high educational content, great social activities to generate friendships and most importantly, a most competent faculty. I have therefore decided that the convention must be postponed for Health and Safety reasons. Your health is the determinant for my decision and we hope to reschedule ASAP. I will be in contact!
I must therefore apologise for any disappointments you may have but this situation is beyond our control.
