Peter Douglas Weller is a Jamaican who attended the University of the West Indies, Howard University in Washington D.C. and Emory University in Atlanta Ga. completing a Ph.D. degree in Clinical Psychology, specializing in Community Psychology and Family Therapy.
Dr. Weller was the first Clinical Psychologist with the National HIV/STD Control Programme in Jamaica. Dr. Weller was the a lecturer in Psychology at the University of the West Indies and in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, he then joined the team at the Health Center of the University of the West Indies where his clients included faculty, staff and students, as well as organizations at that institution.
Dr. Weller was appointed by the Government of Jamaica to serve as a Commissioner on the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica and also to serve on the National Values and Attitudes Committee.
He is a Past President of the Jamaica Psychological Society, a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Psychologists and is a Consulting Editor of the Caribbean Journal of Psychology. He has published a number of articles, reports and book chapters.
Dr Weller is a volunteer with the Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Programme, and has conducted training for the IRC in several Caribbean countries.
Dr. Weller is a member of the Caribbean Network for the Study of Masculinity. He is co-founder and Chairperson of the Caribbean Male Action Network (CariMAN) an NGO registered in Trinidad and Tobago, with representation in 12 Caribbean nations. He consults with the United Nations and other agencies and conducts training on masculinity, gender and social justice issues.
Dr. Weller currently supervises Clinical Psychologists in training at the St. Augustine campus of the University of the West Indies.
