Raj Rattan is a practising dentist and a part-time dento-legal adviser at Dental Protection. He is a postgraduate Associate Dean at London Deanery and responsible for postgraduate training programmes for newly qualified dentists.
He has authored/co-authored seven textbooks on various aspects of dentistry, and lectures extensively on a variety of subjects relevant to general dental practice. Formerly a Policy Adviser to the Department of Health, he acts as an adviser and consultant to a number of professional organisations both within the NHS and the private sector.

In this session, we will present an over-view of how mistakes arise in clinical practice and the methods that can be used to minimise error. The consequences of error in terms of complaints, damage to reputation and litigation will also be considered with practical advice on how to minimise the threats present in everyday dental practice.
