2008 Lecturer: Dr. Alvaro Ordoņez
 

Professor Alvaro Ordoņez Professor Alvaro Ordoņez comes from a well-known family of outstanding dentists. He is the third generation in his family starting from his grandfather and then his father and sister. He received his first dental degree from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá (Colombia) and served as a dental resident before moving to a hospital in Boyacá (Colombia). He successfully worked for one year as a general practice resident in Cartagena (Colombia) at Blas de Lezo Hospital.

Professor Ordoņez continued his studies at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston were he did a fellowship in Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ), Dental Occlusion and Facial Pain. Dr Noshir Mehta, Albert Forgione and Harold Gelb trained him in different techniques of conservative TMJ treatment. He also served as a clinical instructor at Tufts University in the Restorative Dentistry Department. He is involved with medical research on an ongoing basis (Energex) and was a consultant for two companies: Tekscan and Neurodyne. Dr. Ordoņez is currently Co-chairman of the TMJ/Occlusion and cosmetic programme at Lindsey Hopkins.

He is an implantologist with a diplomate, master and fellow of the international congress of oral implantologists and received second place at the table clinic competitions in the 2004 ICOI congress.

Professor Ordoņez, teaches at Nova South-Eastern University School of Dental Medicine as well as the University of Florida. He is an expert consultant in the area of facial pain and TMJ disorder at the V.A Hospital in Miami and is a guest speaker at the Jackson Memorial Hospital in the area of TMJ. He is academically involved with different schools in South America and hopes to get involved with many other projects.

Dental applications of botox in dentistry.

The purpose of this presentation is to introduce the audience to the contemporary applications and indications of botulinum toxin in dentistry.

Botox has been used in dentistry for many years to improve muscle related disorders and facial cosmetics.

At the end of this lecture, the Dr will be able to understand the mechanisms of function of botox as well as the reconstitution process and dosage and inyection techniques.
