Dr. Naidu qualified from Guy's Dental Hospital, London in 1989 following which he worked in the UK National Health Service before setting up his own practice in Trinidad in 1994. He worked as a part-time clinical demonstrator at The University of the West Indies (UWI) School of Dentistry before the attainment of his Diploma and Masters in Dental Public Health from The Royal College of Surgeons of England and King's College London respectively in 1998. In 1999 he took up a full-time lecturer post in Community Dentistry at The UWI, teaching preventive dentistry and dental public health to undergraduates and dental interns. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Public Health and a Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Dr. Naidu has a strong interest in dental research with over twenty peer-reviewed publications in the dental literature and has also presented his research at regional and international dental meetings. He is a referee for the International Journal of Pediatric Dentistry and The West Indian Medical Journal. His current research areas include oral health promotion, children's oral health, access to dental care and continuing dental education in the Caribbean.

Oral problems may not only be seen by dental practitioners but also by other primary care providers. This study undertaken in Trinidad explores the experiences of medical practitioners in dealing with dental and oral problems amongst their patients, including what conditions they commonly encounter, how they manage them and their level of knowledge of oral diseases. The findings of this research have important implications for continuing medical and dental education and oral health promotion in the West Indies.
