2009 Lecturer: Dr. Mario J. Martinez DDS
 

Dr. Mario Martinez Dr. Mario J. Martinez DDS, attained his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida in 1994 before graduating with his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1998. His specialist certificate in Paediatric Dentistry was obtained from the Lutheran Medical Centre (Brooklyn, NY) in 2000 where he became Chief Resident while working as a Clinic Instructor in the Paediatric Dental Department at the New York University, School of Dentistry.

He has been the Chairman of the Paediatric Dental sector of the Lindsey Hopkins Vocational Centre from 2003-Present and has been serving at the Miami Children's Hospital for the last five years. He is a very active member in many associations including the American Academy of Paediatric Dentistry and the Florida Paediatric Dental Association. He is currently Vice President of the South Dade Dental Society and past president (2003-2004) of the Riviera Study Club.

Dr. Martinez has received many awards for his clinical excellence and professional presentations at the American Academy of Paediatric Dentistry and the American Dental Association annual sessions. His research includes "the safety and efficacy of midazolam, hydroxyzine and codeine in the sedation of the paediatric patient and his publication. His main publication The New Era of Precordia/Pretracheal Stethoscopes, was published in November/December 1999, Volume 21, Number 7 Journal of the American Academy of Paediatric Dentistry.

This lecture will cover why and how Relative Analgesia can be used to benefit the goodwill of dental practices while making it financially beneficial by reducing the level of stress which is normally accompany patients who come for dental treatment. The goal is to become familiar with the use of nitrous oxide and incorporate its use into everyday practice with confidence, safety, and efficiency.

The lecture is suited for all members of the dental profession who will hopefully be thereafter converted to its usage.

This lecture is for all members of the dental profession and will provide some insight into the management of children using basic pedodontic procedures. Dr. Martinez will also speak on advances in Pediatric Dentistry some of which can be of benefit in general practice.

Children are being underserved throughout the world because of the lack of basic knowledge.

The goal is to acquire these skills that will benefit not only the pediatric patient and their family, but also the dental practitioner and staff.
