Dr. Shivaughn Marchan graduated from the University of The West Indies School of Dentistry in 1997. She attained her M.Sc in conservative dentistry from the Eastman Dental Institute, University College London in 2000. Since then she has been a lecturer in the Unit of Restorative Dentistry at the School of Dentistry. Her main responsibilities are clinical supervision and didactic lectures in the areas of operative dentistry and fixed partial prosthodontics.
Additionally she is the coordinator of the Vocational Training programme at The School of Dentistry and the recently appointed Assistant Director (Trinidad site) of the Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program which is administered by the Lutheran Medical Center, New York.
Her primary focus of research is in dental biomaterials, particularly the investigation of newer endodontic posts.

This lecture will discuss the pros and cons of the use of resin- retained bridges in the management of edentulous spaces and adhesive onlays on teeth requiring cuspal coverage. The lecture will describe methods to increase the success of such restorations, including the use of appropriate materials, clinical and laboratory procedures.
