Professor Stephen Lambert-Humble is a Postgraduate Dental Dean in the UK. He was National Lead Dean for Dental Public Health for 5 years and is currently National Lead Dean for Dental Care Professionals (DCP).
Stephen had a full career in the Royal Navy, as a GDP, a Specialist in Dental Public Health, and delivering and managing dental training at all levels. He retired early as a Surgeon Captain and as the first Armed Forces Dental Dean and a Consultant in Dental Public Health, to take up his current post.
In a voluntary capacity, he has been Chair of the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses, has twice been Vice Dean of the FGDP(UK), and set up the FGDP(UK) Advisory Board for DCPs, the RCS England Dental Hygiene & Dental Therapy and Clinical Dental Technician Exam Boards; chairing each of them. For the latter, he set up and ran top-up training courses for 5 years to get the first Clinical Dental Technicians (CDTs) registered in the UK. He successfully runs a UK wide blended learning programme for CDTs, leading to registration, the first of which has just graduated nearly 80 students.
He produced DNART, a highly successful e-learning programme which enabled nearly 10,000 experienced dental nurses to become registered, and subsequently produced DNSTART a Dental Nurse induction training programme. He set up a MSc in Primary Dental Care for dentists, and the first BSc in Primary Dental Care for DCPs, both of them at the University of Kent.
At the Deanery, he is running Dental Foundation, Dentist with a Special Interest and Specialty training programmes, CPD for the whole team including Clinical Governance and programmes for enhanced practitioners. He commissioned and delivered a widely acclaimed e-learning programme on Oral Cancer, and his latest e-learning venture is a programme entitled Oral Health for the Vulnerable Patient, which will be in 2 parts - the Vulnerable Adult and the Vulnerable Child.
Stephen is wholly committed to improving patient care through lifelong learning, and manages a small dedicated team who all share these ideals and under his leadership continue to deliver leading edge education programmes in his deanery area, nationally in the UK, and increasingly electronically around the world.
He is married to Karen - a lawyer, has two married children and 5 grandchildren and works hard to maintain his work-life balance by spending as much time as possible with them.
