Professor Edwina Kidd qualified at the Royal Dental Hospital, London, in 1964. Although a teacher of Conservative Dentistry, her research interests have been in cariology. She became a Professor of Cariology in 1995. She has published extensively in research journals and lectured worldwide. She is author of two undergraduate textbooks, Essentials of Dental Caries and Pickard's Manual of Operative Dentistry (Oxford University Press). One of her books, "Dental Caries, the disease and its clinical management", published by Blackwell Wiley (2008) seems to be in use all over the world. It was co-edited with Ole Fejerskov and Edwina Kidd and 44 cariologists from around the world were involved in the writing. Her principal aim in teaching and writing has been to base the practice of Conservative Dentistry on the science of Cariology.

- When are fillings needed on occlusal and approximal surfaces and for recurrent caries?
- How much demineralized tissue should be removed prior to restoration?
- Stepwise excavation and incomplete caries removal.
