2008 Lecturer: Lynette Andrew
 

Lynette Andrew Ms Lynette Andrew is Managing Director and Principal Consultant of Synergy Performance Consultants Inc. Having worked in the field for over twenty-five years, she has extensive and varied knowledge in dealing with human resource strategies and practices. For the past ten years, she has managed Synergy supported by a pool of professional resource persons for specific projects. The company has successfully provided realistic human resource management and development solutions for corporate clients in the private and public sectors in Barbados and the Caribbean. Lynette's expertise is sought-after by consulting firms requiring specific competencies in human resource management and planning. Prior to starting Synergy, she was Human Resource Specialist for Shell Antilles and Guiana's Limited and directing the administration of human resource policies, processes and procedures for the East Caribbean Region. During her early career, she worked in the personnel functions of Leyland Vehicles Ltd. and Massey Ferguson Ltd. in the U.K.

Lynette is an HR generalist. She has years of experience in job analysis, job evaluation, compensation, employee and industrial relations, recruitment and selection. Her specific experience in people development includes the design of performance management processes, the design and delivery of several training workshops and other development interventions. For the period, 2003-2005, she managed the regional training and internships programmes of the Caribbean Regional Intern-Scholarship Program (CRISP), a development programme funded by USAID for participants in the working populations of Barbados and the Organisation for Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). Lynette was contracted by the Washington DC management consulting firm, Aurora Associates International Inc., to plan and coordinate training for CRISP.

She is a Fellow of the U.K. based Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and holds a diploma in Management Studies from the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies. She has acted as Caribbean External Moderator on behalf of the Institute of Personnel and Development for the Cable & Wireless Certificate in Personnel Practice study programme for HR Practitioners in the Caribbean region.

Lynette Andrew is also Co-Director of WellnessMax, a corporate and worksite wellness promotion company. She is responsible for marketing wellness promotion as a strategic human resource intervention and designing and facilitating organisation-specific programmes. She is Editor of the company's wellness promotion bulletin for employers, "Healthy People=Healthy Business".

Ms Andrew has worked with numerous companies within Barbados and the Caribbean, published many articles and has appeared regularly on the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation Television programmes."

It is well recognized that stress reduces employee well-being, and that excessive or sustained work pressure can lead to stress. This session will define stress and distinguish it from acceptable levels of pressure; examine the signs of stress and look at techniques for managing your own stress and measures for reducing workplace stress.

The world of work has changed. Customers expect service at times that suit them. More and more people have to juggle responsibilities at home and in the workplace and are finding that work demands get in the way of their non-work commitments. This session explores the benefits of introducing work-life balance practices and how such practices can improve productivity, increase flexibility and customer service, raise morale and reduce absenteeism.
